George Garnett was headmaster at Calderbridge Church of England School when he was called up to serve in WWI. He was gassed while serving in France and subsequently died from the effects.
443 Gertrude Garnett's (1888 - 1974) Recipe
Book - Document G280
Gertrude Garnett trained as a confectioner and this was her recipe book which appears to have started when she trained and was added to throughout her life. Most of the early recipes make very large quantities, and have no procedure.
For some of the recipes I have found a modern version which provides the baking procedure.
The recipe book also includes recipes for medicinal remedies and other things such as furniture polish.

Pedigree of 'Hall' on Spring Roller - Document

In 1907, Douglas Hall had his father's, Bernard Hall (1813-1890) , family traced back professionally through nine generations to Richard Hall of Castern-in-Ilam (d: 1506).
A 'tree' of those nine generations was copied onto a 'spring roller' chart but sadly the 'spring roller' chart was destroyed. However, Douglas had most of his researcher's original source material for the 'tree' meticulously copied into a book, "Pedigree of 'Hall' on Spring Roller" which has survived.

Wardle Family Tree
In September 1994, Edward Ash developed a family
tree for the Wardles beginning wih Joseph Wardle(1777-1837) of
Leek (you will have to zoom-in to view the details).
The Hall and Wardle families are connected through the marriage
of Patrick Bernard Hall (204) and Diana Baddeley (625) in 1954.

The Death of Bernard Hall (1813-1890) - Document

Mr. Bernard Hall was for many years a member of the Liverpool Town Council as an alderman and also as mayor 1879-80, the year Liverpool became a city.
For more than half a century he was one of the most prominent merchants in the West India Trade.
Among others, he was the chairman of the Queen Insurance Company and a director of the Callao Dock Company, of the West India Pacific Steamship Company, Limited, and of the Chester Boat Company, Limited.
He was also owner of a large sugar plantation in Jamaica.

John S. Edmunson, with the assistance of his son Doug, wrote this account of his experiences with the South Saskatchewan Regiment during the Dieppe Raid at Pourville.
The article was written in 1993, revised in 2003 and appeared in the Canadian Military History, Volume 13, Number 4, Autumn 2004, pp.47-61.

Details of the research to determine the place and time of the photograph from Guy Johnson's album. It was determined that the photo was taken in the Old Cemetery at Kroonstad, Orange Free State sometime after 15 Jun 1900.

The book chronicles the activities of the Warwickshire Yeomanry in South Africa during the Anglo-Boer War. The Yeomanry sailed from Liverpool on 1 February 1900 and returned to Southampton on 16 June 1901 and to Warwick on the 17th.
Guy Johnson was with the Yeomanry from 1 January 1900 to 24 April 1901 and is mentioned in the book a few times. pp98
