First Lieutenant Royal Naval Reserve. Captain Royal Engineers. Member of Parliament (Unionist) for Isle of Wight from 19101922. In 1914 on outbreak of war, on patrol work in his yacht in Solent and in the Channel, assisting in the transport of the original British Expeditionary Force. Later on went out to Seine to assist in rescuing wounded officers. Started the Hospital Barge Flotilla of 200 beds under title of British Water Ambulance Fund of Winch. He was president until taken over by War Office as No. 1 Ambulance Flotilla which he commanded. Later moved to the High Explosives Dept. of Ministry of Munitions. Made a baronet (Seabourg).
